The Ghost of Slumber Mountain (1918) |
||
DINOSAURS IN THE SILENT ERA The Ghost of Slumber Mountain was the first movie about dinosaurs to portray them in a realistic manner. Herbert M. Dawley's pioneering stop-motion animation film presented the animals including a Brontosaurus, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus in a naturalistic environment. The sculpted miniature dinosaur models were reposition and photographed frame by frame to create the illusion of live, moving creatures. The poster to publicize the movie was designed for maximum impact and to bring in the audience. The colorful and impressive stone lithograph six sheet size poster on view in the museum's "History Hall of Dinosaur Movies" is the only complete and restored original version on public display. --Cinema Distributing Corporation/World Pictures, 1918 |
