Tarbosaurus bataar

Tarbosaurus is a large theropod dinosaur from Asia which is closely related to the American Tyrannosaurus rex. Its arms are even shorter in proportion to its body than T. Rex, and its skull is somewhat more lightly built.

The Tarbosaurus was created in 2011 as a 1/10 scale model by sculptor Stephen Czerkas. It was one of the last models done by him and was cast in bronze in 2024. Its creation was document in his time lapse video showing him sculpting the skeleton, adding the muscles, and putting on the final skin detail. The video is on view in The Dinosaur Museum.

The armature was built to hold the clay for creating the scale model.

The model is shown in the process of being sculpted over its skeleton with the muscles being added.

The pose of the Tarbosaurus model was based on the mounted skeleton which is on view in The Dinosaur Museum. The size of the Tarbosaurus is approximately 33 to 39 feet in length.

The museum is now offering casts of the 1/10 scale Tarbosaurus model for sale from a limited edition of 25 bronze sculptures. Inquiries for purchase can be directed to the museum at dinos@dinosaur-museum.org
